Disney’s FROZEN

The World is our classroom.
Fieldtrips make our day – thank you Disney!

One of the best parts of homeschooling is the ability to drop all things at a moments notice and head off on a field trip. One of the best things about working with Disney – is that they facilitate these field trips quite nicely. This last field trip focused on the ice in nice. As in Disney’s new movie coming out in November called FROZEN. Setting themselves apart from the general run of the mill advertising, this movie took a different approach and we were there to be a part of it.

We were invited to spend the day with the awesome Andrea of Moroch Entertainment, in a not so icy spot – Bahia Mar Beach! It was an absolutely perfect Florida sunshiney day to set books aside, close computers screens and head off for a hands-on adventure. And what were we doing under that blue sky and gorgeous sunshine?  We were there first hand to watch an incredible team of sand sculptors hard at work throughout the noonday sun. The company is called Teamsandtastic and the sculptors showing us their expertise were John May, Josh Clyde, and Steve Shomaker.  These guys are professional sculptors who work in both sand and ice and travel all over the country sharing their sculpting skillz. Fascinating to talk too, down to earth, easy to get along with and they gave my kids a great lesson in types of sand, viscosity, adherence and other words I cannot remember.
Oh yes, science on the beach.

Here, showing off my not so fabulous editing skills are a few pics in a not so fancy collage for your absolute viewing pleasure …

My kids remain in love with Tangled and Wreck it Ralph, I may even consider playing Sergeant Calhoun this Halloween, head to toe black latex/leather/vinyl or something … scary in itself! But once again, I digress so where was I … oh yes, Disney magic! Disney has come through with a fabulous soundtrack for Frozen, also featuring one of our favorites, Idina Menzel. How I wish we had seen her play Elphaba in Wicked, can only begin to imagine – she truly is unlimited!

Here is a little blurb from Disney about the upcoming movie …

From the studio behind 2010’s “Tangled” and this year’s “Wreck-It Ralph,” Walt Disney Animation Studios presents “Frozen,” the coolest comedy-adventure ever to hit the big screen. When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna (voice of Kristen Bell), a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell.
Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction. The film is directed by Chris Buck (“Tarzan,” “Surf’s Up”) and Jennifer Lee (screenwriter, “Wreck-It Ralph”), and produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Winnie the Pooh,” “The Princess and the Frog”).
Featuring music from Tony®-winner Robert Lopez (“The Book of Mormon,” “Avenue Q”) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“In Transit”),
“Frozen” journeys into theaters November 27, 2013, inDisney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Have to say, we cannot wait to see this one – that little Olaf guy just needs a hug … he makes my heart melt.
Mark your calendars – it is a do not miss.
